One Hinge. 50 Pounds. 10,000 Opens.

Jul 30,2026

Your shower door hinge holds up to 50 pounds of glass and opens thousands of times. Most homeowners ignore it—until it squeaks, sags, or worse, fails.

Here's what makes a shower hinge worth buying.

Material is everything. Choose 304 stainless steel or solid brass. Both resist rust in humid bathrooms. Avoid zinc alloy or 201 steel—they corrode fast and can break under weight.

Finish protects the metal. Look for PVD coating—it won't scratch, fade, or tarnish. Popular U.S. finishes include matte black, brushed nickel, and polished chrome. Pick what matches your bathroom, but don't skip the coating.

Weight capacity matters. One hinge is never enough. Use two hinges per door, each rated for at least 40 pounds. Your door needs that margin of safety.

Don't forget the screws. Cheap screws rust first—and take the whole door down with them. Make sure every screw is also 304 stainless steel.

A good hinge lasts a decade. A cheap one lasts two years. Choose wisely.
